Filming music

Freelance filmmaker

Working as an independent filmmaker, I very much enjoy filming music-based performances and singing. My previous musical projects have included filming a range of classical soloists, street-based carnival performances, popular music videos, contemporary artists singing live gigs and large operatic productions based across Europe. Editing visuals to music is a real passion of mine. With my many years of video production, I can offer good advice as to how to film your musical project in a way that works for your budget.

Impromptu filming session

I met this featured artist Korole Moussa at the UK Centre for Carnival Arts in Luton where I was filming the preparations for the Luton Carnival. After chatting with Korole he showed me the Kora that he made and started playing the instrument. Korole had great energy and I enjoyed hearing him play and sing. As I was filming in the next room I took the opportunity to set up an impromptu filming session to capture this moment. I positioned Korole in the small drum storeroom as this was the quietest space at the time. Korole was lit with two LED panel lights, and the sound was recorded with a Sennheiser directional microphone.

Promoting musicians

Korole Moussa is a musician, dancer and teacher of African culture. He brings people together by sharing his talents of performing and by making music with other instruments such as the djembe, xylophone, doum doum ba, maracas and abrade. Korole Moussa has toured through Burkina Faso, Benin, Cote D’Lvoire, France, London, Mali, Senegal, Togo and Guinee. He was born in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso in West Africa. In this video, Korole Moussa sings ‘Boys Abre” with a Kora he handcrafted and tuned.
