Short video production for Opera Zuid
This short video production features an interview with Opera Zuid’s ‘Head of Costumes’ Leo van den Boorn. I was recently commissioned by Opera Zuid to film and edit a series of promotional videos. The videos were designed to help to promote their production of Un Ballo in Maschera during their tour of different theatres in the Netherlands.
Behind the scenes stories
As well as having over 50 cast members on stage during the performance, this production also has the support of a backstage crew. The backstage crew consist of a friendly, passionate team that tour with the production team. It’s a highly professional collection of artists in their own right. I found it very interesting to hear all their stories. These production cast and crew stories and examples like them can add another dimension to the promotion using video of any production.
For this short video production, I filmed Leo in one of the cast’s dressing rooms before a full dress rehearsal. I used the light from the window to provide a backlight. My Dedo DLED4 bicolour light with softbox was used to help light Leo’s face and eyes. To record high-quality sound, I fitted a lavalier microphone to the inside of Leo’s jacket so that it could not be seen. The interview was framed so that the clothes rail of lead artist costumes could be seen in the background. Leo had made his own beautiful jacket so looked very stylish as befitting the ‘Head of Costumes’.
Promotional video editing
This stage production promotional video was edited the next day at my post-production suite in London. I was keen to deliver a very short promotional video that would be suitable for social media and uploading to Instagram. After reviewing the filmed media, I found this segment of Leo’s interview to be highly engaging. Viewing the two days filmed footage I found the best cutaways to illustrate Leo’s interview.
Stage production publicity
Many of the theatres booked for Opera Zuid’s tour across the Netherlands selected one of the four Opera Zuid trailers that I edited to add to their website to help promote ticket sales. These short-form videos helped to communicate and promote the beauty of this operatic production ahead of the performance.
As a London based videographer, I am frequently commissioned to produce, film and edit promotional videos for advertising and social media promotion. Please get in touch if you have any questions or if I can help further.
