Freelance consultant
I work as a freelance technical and creative consultant, supporting various businesses and individuals in film and video production and post-production.
Key expertise
My crucial expertise includes understanding client requirements and translating those into workable solutions that meet deadlines or financial conditions.
I have expert knowledge of Avid systems, broadcast technical standards, and file-based media workflows. My skills also include project and stakeholder management, functional diagnosis and troubleshooting.
Some examples of my technical and creative skills include:
BBC systems administrator
The BBC was implementing Avid Interplay into their 28-suite post-production village. As the appointed Systems Administrator, I led its implementation within a live broadcast environment.
I scoped system requirements and re-engineered workflows and procedures. I acted as a key liaison point for technical issues, communicated complex technical information, and tailored content to reflect client needs.
With dedication, I managed the introduction of the first central ‘ingest’ area and file asset management system for post-production at BBC Television Centre. Working alongside the rest of the team, we all succeeded in implementing the Interplay system, which enabled improved media asset management.
Technicolor project manager
Technicolor's client (IMG Media) wanted to convert its extensive sports-based archive from tape to digital file-based media. I was engaged as a Technical Project Manager to lead the installation of a Samma tape robot system.
I liaised with Technicolor and IMG management, engineering, and production teams to define requirements. During initial system testing, I quality-checked tape and file-based media. I ensured the Samma tape robot was continually managed and loaded for 24-hour operation.
Over six months, I resolved many technical issues, checked the system and output data and metadata, and liaised with engineering to ensure continuous operation. I enabled the successful installation of the Samma robot system ahead of schedule.
BBC post-production
After joining the BBC as a trainee, I worked creatively and technically in BBC post-production for 13 years, supporting engineers, craft staff, freelancers and production teams.
Since leaving the BBC in 2009, I have continued to work in the broadcast sector as a freelance filmmaker, videographer and video editor. I have delivered a wide range of professional and creative projects.
