Video training by ex-BBC trainer
I am an experienced video production trainer and have worked with a wide range of people from beginners through to more experienced individuals. Whilst working for the BBC, I spent many years training production and post-production colleagues in all aspects of broadcast specification content and short film production. Since leaving the BBC, I have continued to help people with their video training needs.
In my training, I draw upon the knowledge gained from my practical experience, industry courses, and my professional broadcast experience. Whilst at the BBC I helped train young people for the countrywide BBC Blast programme. I have undertaken TPMA/ICTP training.
Video production training
Throughout my TV and video production professional career, I have always enjoyed helping people to learn. I believe it is most helpful for people to use hands-on practical training to consolidate knowledge. During my career, I have worked across many technically diverse roles and in each one, my expertise has enabled me to train a wide range of individuals and small groups. Working as a freelancer I now offer training and work experience to university students.
One way to start with video production training
One great way to help beginners is to teach them how to create their own film about something that is close to them. It could be a film about a holiday with family or friends or a short promotional film to help a charity. Most people now have access to all the tools needed to create some kind of video content. By trying to make their own film beginners, new to the field of video production, will gain an understanding of what strengths they have, what they enjoy and what skills they need to develop.
Understanding your training needs
It can be helpful for developing talent, to have an initial chat and watch any examples of video related work they have created. From watching these first efforts, I can gain an understanding of their current skill levels. Setting them a new challenge can both test their knowledge and be a productive way for them to learn new and relevant skills. Working with students in a supportive way will help them to consolidate their existing knowledge whilst developing new skills.
Helping people learn
With my professional wide-ranging video production skills I can help train beginners, inspire developing talent and offer new ideas and ways of working for the more experienced. Advanced training may consist of practical skills development in more specific areas.
