Experienced technical creative consultant
My career changed when I started to develop my broadcast creative and technical skills at the BBC after working as an Aeronautical Technician in the RAF and for British Aerospace.
After joining the BBC as a trainee I worked in BBC post-production for 13 years creatively and technically supporting engineers, craft staff, freelancers and production teams. Since leaving the BBC in 2009 I have continued to work in the broadcast sector as a freelance creative technical consultant delivering on a wide range of technical and creative projects.
Creative and technical expertise
My key expertise includes Avid systems. Broadcast technical standards. Creative problem-solving. File-based media workflows. Project and stakeholder management. Technical diagnosis and troubleshooting. Film and video production and post-production. Quick thinking and committed personality.
BBC technical creative consultant highlight
The BBC was implementing Avid Interplay into their 28 suite post-production village. As a newly appointed Systems Administrator, I became responsible for leading on its implementation within a live broadcast environment. I scoped system requirements & re-engineered workflows and procedures. I acted as key liaison point for technical issues and communicated complex technical information and tailored content to reflect client needs. With dedication, I managed the introduction of the first central ‘ingest’ area & file asset management system for post-production at BBC Television Centre. Working alongside the rest of the team we all succeeded in implementing the Interplay system which enabled improved management of media assets.
Technicolor technical creative consultant highlight
A client of Technicolor (IMG Media) wanted to convert their extensive sports based archive from tape to digital file-based media. I was engaged as Technical Project Manager to lead the installation of a Samma tape robot system. I liaised with Technicolor and IMG management, engineering, and production teams to define requirements. During initial system testing, I quality checked tape & file-based media. I ensured Samma tape robot was continually managed and loaded for 24-hour operation. Over a 6-month period I resolved many technical issues; checked system and output data & metadata and liaised with engineering to ensure continuous operation. I succeeded in enabling a successful installation of the Samma robot system, ahead of schedule.
