Freelance technical creative consultant
I work as a freelance technical, creative consultant supporting a wide range of businesses and individuals related to film and video production and post-production.
Key expertise
My crucial expertise includes understanding client requirements and being able to translate those into workable solutions that meet any deadline of financial conditions. I have expert knowledge around Avid systems, broadcast technical standards, creative problem-solving, file-based media workflows, project and stakeholder management, functional diagnosis and troubleshooting as well as film and video production and post-production.
Some examples of my technical and creative skills include:
BBC systems administrator
The BBC was implementing Avid Interplay into their 28 suite post-production village. As the appointed Systems Administrator, I was responsible for leading on its implementation within a live broadcast environment. I scoped system requirements & re-engineered workflows and procedures. I acted as a key liaison point for technical issues and communicated complex technical information and tailored content to reflect client needs. With dedication, I managed the introduction of the first central ‘ingest’ area & file asset management system for post-production at BBC Television Centre. Working alongside the rest of the team, we all succeeded in implementing the Interplay system, which enabled improved management of media assets.
Technicolor project manager
A client of Technicolor (IMG Media) wanted to convert their extensive sports-based archive from tape to digital file-based media. I was engaged as a Technical Project Manager to lead the installation of a Samma tape robot system. I liaised with Technicolor and IMG management, engineering, and production teams to define requirements. During initial system testing, I quality checked tape & file-based media. I ensured Samma tape robot was continually managed and loaded for 24-hour operation. Over six months, I resolved many technical issues; checked the system and output data & metadata and liaised with engineering to ensure continuous operation. I succeeded in enabling a successful installation of the Samma robot system, ahead of schedule.
BBC post-production
After joining the BBC as a trainee, I worked in BBC post-production for 13 years creatively and technically supporting engineers, craft staff, freelancers and production teams. Since leaving the BBC in 2009, I have continued to work in the broadcast sector as a freelance filmmaker, videographer and video editor delivering on a wide range of professional and creative projects.
