Data Wrangler based in central London with over 13 years experience of working with camera files.
Managing camera card and file-based digital media
My experience of managing digital file-based camera media began when the BBC allowed productions to use the Panasonic P2 format for recording media. Some of the BBC and freelance broadcast camera crews started using this file based system in 2004. Since that time I have been responsible for managing digital media files filmed on a wide variety of makes and models of professional broadcast cameras using a wide range of file systems and different codecs.
Through the experience of many years of working within busy broadcast post-production environments, I gained wide-ranging skills in safely managing large quantities of digital media. As a skilled video editor, I have a thorough understanding of file-based digital media, digital image manipulation and post-production workflows.
My knowledge as a data wrangler continues to develop across a wide professional field. I have managed the digital media for projects that have used a wide range of cameras made by such manufacturers as Arri, Canon, Panasonic, Red and Sony. I have been able to stay up-to-date with the constant evolution of cameras and codecs in file-based media management. Recent projects that I have worked on have included cameras filming images with UHD raster sizes of up to 5K recorded onto Redmag (SSD) cards.
As a data wrangler, I can safely manage, transcode and copy camera files on location and providing back-up to additional drives as required.
My MacPro connects via Thunderbolt 2 (or USB 3) to external storage ensuring the fastest file transfer times. Additional Thunderbolt 2 connected RAID 5 storage is also available if required.
My software applications include Double Data which supports a wide range of professional cameras and media whilst allowing for two copies to be backed up simultaneously. It also accurately checks each file transfer with a checksum and notifies you should any problems arise. To spot-check RED media, I have also installed Redcine-X Professional.
As well as providing digital media support as a data wrangler, I can also provide on-site editing with the latest version of Avid Media Composer, which in addition to 1920 x 1080, also now supports the native editing of 2K, 4K and UHD resolutions.
