Promotional video production
Working as a promotional videographer and with over 15 years experience in broadcast video production, I produce, film and edit a wide range of promotional films and videos. This case study features a video I created for Dane Jeremy Hurst dancer and choreographer.
Filming
This film showcases a dance by Dane Jeremy Hurst Dancer and Choreographer. The filming of Dane dancing took place in an artist’s studio in London during the summer of 2012. In the studio, a white set was created using rolls of white paper. We lit the set with tungsten lights – two overhead 1K lights secured to the building’s structure and three floor-standing 800W lights.
We made a two-camera shoot – I was filming with a camera mounted on a tripod, and Richard Gillespie was filming with a camera attached to a jib arm. One of the challenges of this shoot was to camouflage a 90-degree corner of the studio to appear to be white, without any visual corners or shadows being visible.
Dane wore a costume which was created and designed by Georg Meyer-Wiel.
Editing
After filming, I transferred all the media on my RAID 5 media drives and backed it up. I first viewed all the filmed footage to get a sense of the imagery. I then started to select the most interesting shots editing them into a timeline. Over time I positioned the best of the dance movements to match the music track which was composed by Fabio D’Andrea. This dance piece had not been performed to any music. I was pleased to bring these visuals together to make a beautiful short performance showreel for Dane.
