Freelance video editor London Julian Langham

Freelance video editor in London

As a freelance video editor, I edit short-form videos, films, documentaries, music-based projects and a wide range of promotional content.

Previous projects include editing for the BBC, films for the festival circuit, culturally diverse shorts and promotional content for online clients.

Video editing advice

Due to my extensive experience and customer-focused approach, clients frequently ask me to advise on their creative and technical queries.

I am always happy to provide individually tailored support to create the best outcomes for any film or video project.

Efficient video editing services

One of my key strengths is working efficiently to benefit my clients.

I am highly skilled and practised at editing sound and vision, together with any additional supplied elements, creatively to any brief provided.

Assets for video editing

Other assets supplied for an edit can include animations, graphics, music, stock footage, sound effects, textual elements and language translations if required.

I can deliver any project that meets my clients' required brief and technical standards by editing the essential video, audio, and other assets.

Video editing skills

I am proficient in many editing skills. These include media management, adding texts and subtitles in various languages, sound mixing, colour correction, and visual effects.

In addition, I am highly skilled at constructing a narrative in the edit, even when a project has not been fully pre-produced, storyboarded, or shot-listed.

My extensive editing experience enables me to create an engaging film or video that utilises the best of any supplied media.

Video editor freelance

In addition to working with my clients, I collaborate with freelance directors and producers to deliver their programmes, films, and videos.

I also offer additional freelance video editor services, including technical support for clients.

I've also worked on location as a freelance data wrangler for film productions, managed post-production Avid conforms, and undertaken file encoding and quality checks.

Online video editor

The fastest ultra-fast full-fibre 1Gb/s broadband speeds are available to my video editing workstation.

This quick connection enables me to provide clients worldwide with my post-production skills.

Full-fibre 1Gb/s broadband lets me quickly download and upload large amounts of media when projects require it.

Protected video media

As a freelance video editor in London, I use the latest version of Avid Media Composer.

My Mac-based workstation is connected to over 80TB of media storage space, including three large-capacity Pegasus RAID 5 drives.

Each of my RAID 5 drives is mirrored on a separate hard drive, providing enhanced project security and media safety.

A UPS (uninterruptible power supply) protects my workstation and media drives in case of a power failure.

BBC-trained video editor

My post-production career began in 1996 when I joined the BBC. I learnt to operate various post-production equipment and to assess programme material to meet BBC technical and editorial guidelines.

I developed my experience as an Avid editor when the BBC first started using non-linear post-production editing in 1998. Since then, I have continued to edit on Avid Media Composer.

Video editing experience

While editing for the BBC, I worked across many genres, including children’s programming, light entertainment, and network presentation.

My BBC experience with longer-form projects included editing ‘recorded as live’ multi-camera performances and many single-camera 25-minute programmes. I also have experience editing 50-minute programming.

Freelance video editor

I was previously a promotional trailer video editor for the BBC and am an expert at editing short 10-second to 60-second fast-cut promotional trailers.

My freelance experience with short-form projects has included filming and editing charity documentaries, music-based videos, and a wide range of promotional films.

Here, you can read a complete list of my video editing credits and my freelance video editor London CV.

Video Editing FAQs

Browse the most common questions we get asked about video editing.

What is a video editor?

A video editor is a creative and technical person that uses their experience, skills and computer software to transform filmed digital footage, sound and other digital assets like graphics and music into a final video or film that meets any required brief and the creative vision.

Do you edit all your projects?

Yes, I edit all my videos, films and commissions myself from my creative base in Vauxhall, Central London.

How long does video editing take?

The time it takes to edit a film or video depends on many factors including how much media for editing is supplied, the time it takes to edit this to your brief, the type and style of film, the number of deliverables and their final durations.

How much does video editing cost?

I would be happy to offer you an estimate for your film or video editing once I understand more details of what you need making and what is involved.

What editing software do you use?

I edit all my projects on Avid Media Composer with the Symphony colour grading software.

I also have a wide variety of additional software to help manage all my post-production and editing requirements.

Will my media be safe with you?

As a BBC trained video editor, I am very experienced in media management. The best working practice is that you should send me a copy of your media and that you should keep at least one copy yourself.

All my media is stored locally, and I copy all my client’s media onto professional RAID 5 drives which are also mirrored onto separate drives. So yes, your media files will be very safe with me.
